Elegantly incorporating Holiday Themes into Your Wedding Design
Designing a Stunning Seasonal Wedding
We know this is a controversial topic because November is still technically autumn, but it’s also the start of the holiday season. Whether you’re celebrating Christmas before Thanksgiving or you’re in full fall mode until December 1, it’s the time of year for festive gatherings and decorations!
There is no gathering quite as festive as a wedding, especially a wedding during the holiday months. Incorporating festive themes into your wedding can reflect your opinion about holiday celebrations too – there really are no hard and fast rules about when it’s acceptable to decorate with winter florals vs fall florals. The important thing to remember is that your big day should feel cohesive with the season.
Once you get started on the ‘holiday wedding’ train of thought, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed by the amount of kitschy decorations out there. That’s not at all what we are talking about! The goal of this post is to remind you that it’s absolutely possible to incorporate festive themes into your wedding design without making it feel cheesy or cliche.
One more thing to note before we jump right in: We’re headed right into the cozy winter months, so we’re going to highlight winter in this post. However, these ideas can be adjusted to apply to really any season.
Now that we’ve covered all our bases, let’s get started!
Focus on Your Color Palette
The right combination of colors can communicate the atmosphere of your wedding more effectively than almost anything else. Rich, warm, and earthy tones that feel cozy and inviting are what you want to aim for. Deep burgundy, icy blues, emerald green, and neutral ivory are all great colors to consider for a beautiful winter-inspired color palette.
Choose a Cozy Menu
Nothing sets the mood at a holiday-inspired wedding quite like a seasonal menu. During the winter months, opt for hearty, comforting dishes. A winter-inspired cocktail, squash soups, fresh bread, warm cocoa, or baked apple desserts are all delicious and elegant options. Whether you’re serving appetizers, a full dinner, or an array of desserts, your menu is a great place to incorporate winter themes.
Incorporate winter Foliage
Flowers are a huge part of your wedding design and decor. They are usually influenced by what is in season, but leaning into winter flowers and foliage can help your day feel festive without doing anything that feels overtly festive. Anemones, ranunculus, and hyacinths are all beautiful winter flowers that can be used in bouquets, boutonnieres, and floral arrangements. Winter foliage can include evergreen branches, ivy, dusty miller, and even pinecones.
Layer a Variety of Textures
Using different textures and fabrics throughout your venue can make your space feel cozy and inviting. Thick, heavier fabrics like wool, velvet, linen, knits, and even leather can all be layered to add dimension to your decor. These textures can even be used outside of decor – they are also great fabrics to incorporate into your wedding attire.
Planning a wedding during the holiday months requires a careful balance of seasonal touches and elegant design. Our winter couples (like the one featured in this post) have been perfect examples of this and we can’t wait to share more inspo from their weddings. We hope these tips are helpful!
