Four Important Things to Practice Before Your Wedding Day

How to Feel as Prepared as Possible for Your Big Day

We share a lot of tips on the blog for creating a smooth, stress-free wedding day experience. Our favorite topics include being organized, writing up a wedding timeline, and communicating effectively with your vendors. Another thing that will help you feel ready for your big day is practice.

You might be thinking: “Practice? For what? Saying I do?” And our response would be: “Yes and yes!” Being prepared for your big day means more than just having all your documents in place and your vendors ready to go. It means that you feel mentally and emotionally ready to soak up all the attention and celebrate your love.

Even if you’re not normally someone who is worried about all eyes being on you, wedding day nerves are a real thing! Rehearsing certain elements of your day will help you feel at ease so that you can go into your day with nothing but good feelings.

Here are different things to consider practicing before your wedding day.

Vows

This is a big one! While it’s absolutely normal (and human!) to make a mistake while reciting your vows, practicing your message beforehand is never a bad idea. Reading your vows out loud to yourself is also a great way to catch any errors. Writing, editing, and practicing your vows before you read them can make them feel more polished and personal. This is true whether you’re sharing them publicly or privately.

The ceremony

Ceremony rehearsals are game-changers when it comes to ironing out the kinks of your wedding timeline! Practicing a walk-through of the order of events before, during, and after your ceremony with everyone who will be involved is the best way to avoid mishaps. Each member of your wedding party should know in what order they stand/walk in, where they should sit, and at what point in the ceremony they will move. We include ceremony rehearsals with all of our packages because it’s such an important thing to practice, even if it’s not in the actual venue space.

Speeches or toasts

If you’re making any kind of formal speech or toast, take a few minutes beforehand to practice what you will say! Even if you’re just standing and saying a few words of gratitude, it will be helpful to at least have an idea of what you’ll say. This will help you avoid feeling flustered or forgetful when you stand up. Encourage any friends or family who will be giving speeches to do the same!

The big kiss

Logistically, it can be helpful to chat with your partner about whether or not you want to do a big dramatic kiss at any point during your day, especially if you’re adding a dip. Whether it’s after you say “I do”, when you walk down the aisle after your ceremony, or during your exit, rehearsing what you will do will lessen the chance of any stumbling or slipping- we also recommend practicing how you’ll hold your bouquet, dress, if your suit will be buttoned or unbuttoned, etc.

Practicing these types of things for your wedding day doesn’t have to be something that adds extra stress to your plate, it should be an exercise that makes you feel more prepared. Taking responsibility for the things that are within your control is the best way to feel ready for your big celebration. We’re so excited for you!
