How to Prepare for a Meeting with Your Wedding Planner
If you are here, you are probably newly engaged or getting close to being engaged. Congratulations! As you look at your long list of decisions to make and plans to arrange for the wedding, my best advice is to put hiring a wedding planner at the very top of that list.
When it comes to finding your wedding planner, sooner is better. Wedding planners' schedules fill up faster than those of almost any other vendor. Also, the longer we are able to work with you, the more we are able to help! Wedding planners will help you book quality vendors that we know and love, help you allocate your budget appropriately, answer questions about anything and everything wedding related, create design boards and custom timelines, and so much more. We live and breathe the wedding industry so that you don’t have to!
Before the meeting
Once you have found a wedding planner or two that you are interested in meeting with, you should contact them to set up a meeting. Speaking with them in person or via video call will really let you know whether you are a good fit for each other or not.
Before going into the meeting, be sure to look over the different wedding packages that they offer. Most wedding planners offer full planning, partial planning, and/or a coordination package. Knowing what package you are interested in before going into the meeting will help you narrow down the questions that you need to ask.
Speaking of questions, you should also prepare a list of things that you would like to ask in your meeting. If you know what you want out of a planner, it will be so much easier to guide you to the right one!
What to ask YOUR PROSPECTIVE planner
Here is a sample list of questions to ask your potential wedding planner at your first meeting:
What packages do you offer? What is included in each?
How long have you been planning for?
How do we communicate as we plan? What is our meeting schedule?
How hands-on are you as a planner?
Do you have any resources we can utilize while planning?
Are there any fees outside of our package?
Have you planned weddings similar to ours/worked at our venue?
What is your favorite part of planning a wedding?
Are you licensed and insured?
Do your packages include design?
What does coordination on the wedding day look like?
Do you have preferred vendors you can recommend?
How big is the team you bring on the day of?
How many hours do you include on the wedding day?
What happens if you aren’t able to make it on our wedding day?
Asking these questions and more, depending on what is important to you specifically, will help you know whether this wedding planner is a good fit or not. After the meeting, can you see yourself building your dream wedding day with the help of this person? Trust your gut!
