How to Stick to Your Wedding Planning Timeline
Keeping Your Wedding Planning on Track
Wedding planning is a time for organization, attention to detail, follow-through, and time management. In short, planning a wedding day is not for the weak! Because there is so much that goes into creating your perfect day, it’s essential that you stick to a schedule.
We are big fans of lists and notetaking. Logistics are a wedding planner’s bread and butter! When it comes to being prepared for your wedding day, it’s no surprise that we have a few tips and tricks to share.
In this post, let’s chat about four ways you can stick to your wedding planning timeline.
Use a checklist
The best advice we can give for sticking to your wedding timeline is to write everything down. It’s an old trick, but a good one- especially becuase with all the moving pieces, you’ll need a paper trail of what’s been done and what you need to tackle next. We love utilizing Google Drive for this, so you can also easily share your to-do lists/spreadsheets/ideas with your partner and planner so everyone can be on the same page.
As you’re outlining everything that needs to be done before your wedding day, make micro-lists for each task. Making a checklist also helps you track what tasks you’ve accomplished. When you’re in the thick of wedding planning, it’s nice to see how far you’ve come!
We have lots of checklist templates available in our shop! A favorite of ours is the Wedding Day Packing List.
Communicate
The fastest way to derail your wedding timeline is miscommunication. Wedding planning is a group effort, and while it’s so valuable to work with all different kinds of help, this also means that there is a lot of room for misunderstanding. Strive for crystal-clear communication between you and your partner, your vendors, your planner, and anyone else involved in the planning of your day.
A great way to set yourself up for success is to write everything down as you book vendors so you have easy access to their information. We also recommend uploading all your contracts to the same place as you go along so you can reference them easily.
Celebrate Milestones
The truth of the matter is that wedding planning is a lot of work. The last thing you want is to get bogged down by all of your tasks and to-do lists. The best way to combat feeling stressed or overwhelmed by organizing your big day is to remind yourself why you’re doing this in the first place.
Regardless of how busy you are, it’s so important to take time to relax and enjoy this phase of the process. You’re getting married! This is a fun time of life! Be intentional about celebrating the little wins all along the way.
Outsource Help
If you’re feeling shell-shocked about the amount of work that is required to pull off your dream wedding, it’s a good idea to consider outsourcing help. As wedding planners, it’s our job to take all of the stressful parts of wedding planning off your plate and give you back your time and energy.
Before you get too nervous about handing over the reins to someone else, it's important to understand that hiring a wedding planner doesn’t have to mean you aren’t involved in your wedding planning. At Everson Events, our process is designed so that you can be as hands-on (or off) as you want. A great resource that will help you bring everything together as you get closer to the wedding day is our Wedding Timeline Workbook. It’s a 30+ page guide that is created to get all of your wedding details on paper and put together your final timelines for your vendor team.
