Rachel & Matt — Snowbasin Ski Resort
Rachel and Matt’s Snowbasin wedding was a ski lover's dream. And let me tell you something, these two are absolutely ski lovers. Rachel and Matt were high school sweethearts who dated for seven years before Matt popped the question. The two of them love adventuring together and have skied at 16 ski resorts across 5 states and 2 countries. They are both Colorado natives with the Rockies in their backyards, but they saw mixing things up and getting married in Utah as a chance for some fun!
Snowbasin Ski Resort is a gorgeous venue that incorporates the beauty of Utah's winter into your wedding day. When Rachel and Matt told me that they were looking for a location that would blend an adventure wedding with the traditional elements they were looking for, I knew that Snowbasin was the place. Needles Lodge, accessible only by gondola (talk about an incredible experience for your guests), is the perfect mix of cozy, rustic charm and stunning mountainous views. Their top-notch catering, extremely helpful staff and management team, and easy access to Huntsville—a town just down the mountain with great rentals for your guests—make the location a perfect match for any couple wanting to ski down the mountain in the winter or simply just enjoy the beautiful views of the mountains at any time of year.
You could not have asked for a more perfect March day. The ground was covered with enough fresh powder to keep the mountain alive, but the sun was high and nearly everyone was walking (or skiing!) around without coats on. The couple decided to have their first look at the top of the gondola, with Matt seeing Rachel for the first time as she stepped off the lift. To remember the day, the couple chose to create custom wooden skis for their guests to sign as they arrived. They were then escorted out onto the patio, where they swooned over the cascading landscape, bright sun, and beautiful wedding party.
After the ceremony, Rachel, Matt, and her parents skied down the mountain with both their photographer and videographer—making for the perfect transition into cocktail hour as guests waved them off and headed to grab their drinks and appetizers. As guests made their way inside, they found their seats at tables labeled with all of the ski resorts the couple had skied together during their adventures together. The rest of the evening was filled with speeches, an incredible Italian buffet, and a high-energy crowd on the dance floor.
Rachel said that their "favorite thing about our wedding was seeing the spirit of our relationship expressed so well. We were able to stick to what really mattered to us and we are so thankful for that." I love working with couples to create a day that is meaningful and tailored to them. As a preferred planner on the vendors’ lists, I am able to put together a day as unique as my incredible clients. Working with Rachel and Matt was so much fun, and their bridal party were rock stars as we loaded everything up on the gondola. By the end of a night of dancing and partying, we all wished the day would last a little longer.
