Five Strategies to Help You Design Your Wedding Vision
Creating the Wedding Design of Your Dreams
Weddings are the kind of events most couples spend years dreaming about. If you’re anything like I was, from the time you’re old enough to create a Pinterest account, you’ve collected ideas for what your ideal wedding day looks like. It’s just such a fun thing to daydream about, right?
When the time comes for wedding plans to become a reality, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all the options. Despite all your years of imagining, you might find yourself wondering what your style actually looks like. Do you really want to incorporate all those ideas you gathered? Do they even make sense together? Is that what you really like?
Take it from a professional wedding planning team, this is a very normal experience. Whether you’re feeling like you’re drowning in a sea of ideas or struggling to know where to begin, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. You can get through it! Our team has years of experience working with couples in similar circumstances.
That’s why I’ve compiled a list of strategies you can employ to help design your wedding vision. Regardless of your situation, I want you to walk away from this blog post with a list of actionable ideas that you can start working on immediately.
Create a Vision Board
Just like you’ve done at some point in life, start by creating a brand new vision board. Pinterest is a great resource for this. Collect ideas and images that resonate with you or that you’d like to incorporate into your wedding. Pull from old boards if there are trends, colors, and ideas that still resonate with you. The best part about this is that you can be as vague or specific as you want with what you find. Think about what you want your overall vibe and aesthetic to be, then go from there. Don't overthink this part- pin everything and anything and THEN we can narrow it down.
Set a Budget
Before you get too carried away with dreaming up your big day, set a realistic budget. Sit down with your partner and discuss how much money you would both feel comfortable spending. Try to go into the conversation with an open mind in order to settle on some common ground. Focus on things that are important to you both and be prepared to work together to stick to whatever amount you decide.
Add Touches of Personality
Share your unique love story through different elements that you incorporate into your design. Do either you or your partner have a strong cultural background? Maybe a shared interest? Anything that speaks to the two of you can be incorporated in fun and meaningful ways to make your wedding design feel personal. Your wedding should be a testament to who you two are, and it's important to let your design choices reflect that.
Set Priorities
An easy way to avoid wedding planning overwhelm is to identify your priorities from the very start. What elements do you and your partner have your heart set on? Focus first on the non-negotiables and then let yourself be flexible with the details that aren’t as important. Be sure to dedicate an appropriate amount of time and energy to the parts that matter most.
Collaborate with Others
Even if you’re dedicated to doing all of the wedding planning yourself, it’s essential to recognize when to ask for help. Whether that’s a trusted friend, a professional wedding planner, or asking questions to your venue + vendor team, don’t be afraid to lean into the ideas of others. To reduce the risk of feeling burnt out before your big day arrives, collaborate (and delegate!) as much as possible.
I hope these ideas get you started in the right direction towards identifying your wedding vision and bringing it to life. Remember, start with the big picture and then narrow in on what's most important, what speaks to you two, and find common threads in your inspo seeking that tie those things together. Most of all, remember to be patient with yourself and HAVE FUN.
