Cam + Ty's Summer Wedding
Making Your Wedding Day Feel Unique
We are so excited to share with you Cam and Ty’s stunning and sophisticated summer wedding celebration.
All of our couples have different items on their wedding “must-have” list. (Hot tip: narrowing down your personal wedding priorities is one of the first things you should do after getting engaged!) For Cam and Ty, one thing they wanted to incorporate into their big day was a few fun DIY projects. They worked together to make their wedding stationery, seating chart signage, and cake table backdrop which paired so well with their elegant venue, florals, and overall design.
If you’re the kind of person who feels inclined towards DIY projects, it can be easy to find yourself wrapped up in a ton of them for your wedding. We are big believers that wedding planning should be fun, and when you’re plate is full of handmade projects it can be hard to enjoy the process. When it comes to DIY, we typically recommend couples pick one or two meaningful projects to take on and leave the rest to professionals.
Cam and Ty are perfect examples of this! They wanted to create a few projects together but didn’t want those to overtake life, work, and everything else they had going on while planning. They DIY-ed some of their decorations because they wanted to make sure their big day reflected their unique style, AND they got to shave a few dollars off their final costs.
Some projects are perfect for DIY, and others are best left for professional vendors for sanity purposes- or because you just don’t have a skill-set in something in particular! While they took on a few creative projects, they also booked caterers, wedding planners, and photographers. To give you some ideas, here are some examples of when to DIY, and when to hire it out.
DIY-friendly Projects:
Ceremony/Photo Backdrop
Table numbers
Welcome Sign
Seating chart
Bar signs
Party favors
Guest book
Menus & Other Day-of Stationery
Where we recommend hiring professionals:
Wedding Coordination (you can plan everything pre-wedding, but you at least need someone to manage things day-of!)
Photographer / Videographer (this is what you take with you forever- so choose well and put your $$ here!!)
Floral (we can debate this one ;) - but if you have room in your budget, have a professional do it so you don’t have to spend hours and hours doing it yourself without the experience of a florist. If you decide to DIY part of your florals, make sure you double check with your professional to make sure they’re okay with you using flowers they don’t produce)
Catering (particularly if you’re doing a full meal, we recommend a caterer to ensure all of the pieces are brought together and handled day-of. If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option, a food truck or restaurant is a good idea but remember to consider plates & cutlery, who’s providing water, who will buss tables, etc).
DJ/MC (as much as a playlist is amazing, if you’re doing any dancing in the evening or you are unsure how the venue system is going to hold up, you will not regret bringing in a professional to help with the flow, music, announcements, and overall vibe of your event.)
